Broadly speaking, True Beauty is a romantic comedy about some people who learn to overcome self-distrust and insecurities after sharing their secrets with each other.

This drama is the adaptation of a hit webtoon with a similar title published in 2018. Yaongyi's webtun has garnered 4 million readers worldwide, including from the United States, Japan, and France.

True Beauty was directed by Kim Sang-hyub who previously directed the dramas Extraordinary You, The King in Love, Glamorous Temptation, Dong Yi, and Cinderella Man.

He admits that he is interested in adapting the webtoon because he realizes that True Beauty has a deep message, not just a teen romance series.

"When I first read the webtoon, I felt it was about high school girls who fantasized about being beautiful with make-up. But after reading, I felt that her suffering was more universal, such as the struggles and injustices that everyday people face," said Kim Sang-hyub.

True Beauty airs starting December 9 on tvN.
